You and your lawyer will become partners in the divorce process. And how well your partnership works can have an enormous affect upon the outcome of your case.
How do I find a lawyer?
Ask friends and relatives. If you can’t get any personal recommendations, there are professional organizations that offer lawyer referral services and, of course, the internet. After your initial conversation with a lawyer, you should be able to answer these questions: ” Does the lawyer understand my goals? Does the lawyer give me sound direction to obtain those goals? Does he appear to have good judgment? Is the attorney experienced in this area of the Law? Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What should I tell the attorney?
The attorney will need to know your background information; the reasons why you want a divorce; your financial information and description of property you own; matters of family violence, abuse, drug habits or an other issues involving your children; and your expectations at the conclusion of the divorce.
